The year 2009 brought us some good movie entertainment. Here are MY favourites:
Best all-around movie: Star Trek
Star Trek has everything you need to be entertained. Action, comedy, and a smidge (but not too much) of romance. Honourable mention: Avatar
Best action movie: Fast and Furious
Fast and Furious was way over the top and totally unrealistic, but the action was fast and furious. Honourable mention: Terminator Salvation
Best science fiction movie: Moon
Moon was brilliantly written and filmed to portray what prolonged solitary confinement can do to someone. Sam Rockwell delivers an excellent performance. Honourable mention: Franklyn
Best romantic comedy: 500 Days of Summer
Yes, I know, 500 Days of Summer is not a love story, according to the narrator, but I think it is. The narration is very fresh and you get lots of laughs. Honourable mention: He’s Just Not That Into You
Best animated movie: Monsters vs Aliens
Monsters vs. Aliens had some of the most witty humour I’ve heard in a long while. I watched this one twice at the cinema, just for the laughs. Honourable mention: Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs
Best drama: Julie and Julia
Julie and Julia challenges us to have dreams and actually do something to achieve them. Quite inspirational. Honourable mention: Seven Pounds
Best war movie: The Hurt Locker
Giving you an insightful look into the Iraq war, The Hurt Locker is unique and makes you think. Honourable mention: Valkyrie

Personally I think "Last Chance Harvey" and "Love Happens" should have received a mention in your list. I found "Last Chance Harvey" a better Romantic Comedy than "He's Just Not That Into You", although I did enjoy that movie too. I also think that based on complete insanity "Vicky, Christina, Barcelona" should be the top comedy of 2009. I've never laughed as much in my life as I did with that movie. Finally I think that "My Sister's Keeper" should have made the list. Maybe tied with "Seven Pounds".
But you're right, "Star Trek" certainly blew all competition for best movie of the year out of the water!

I guess Last Chance Harvey could have made the top spot for a romance category, since I wouldn't classify it as a romantic comedy. I decided to leave Vicky Christina Barcelona off the list, since technically, it was released in 2008 already. And I'm not so sure whether I would classify it as a comedy, even though it is quite funny. For me it was primarily a drama.
Anyway, thanks for the comment! Much appreciated! :)
