Ice Age 3

Ice Age 3

I was surprised that this was only the third Ice Age movie. I remember watching Ice Age movies a lot, but couldn’t remember much. So I assumed that there had been at least a dozen already. Anyway, this time around things weren’t much better. I watched it in 3D, and was unimpressed. The 3D-ness was too real. It wasn’t anything special anymore. I mean, when you’re walking down the street, you don’t keep saying, “Whoa! Everything is in 3D!” You don’t consciously notice that the world is 3D. Rather, you’d be thinking about that new (2D) movie that’s coming out on Friday. That’s how Ice Age 3 felt.

The story was not memorable. I’ll give you a break-down. Everytime I use <X>, please substitute “something I can’t remember because I didn’t care enough” in its place.

1) The gang find a hole and fall in.
2) They find themselves in another world and do <X>.
3) Sid says <X>.
4) Manny says <X>.
5) The other characters (whose names I can’t remember) say <X>.
6) Some dinosaurs come along and do <X>.
7) The gang have to solve <X>.
8) The gang are eventually successful at doing that <X>.
9) They emerge out of the hole back into their own world.
10) And they all lived happily until the next sequel.

Since the first Ice Age the humour has gone down hill. Even Scrat wasn’t that hilarious anymore. Even he couldn’t save the sinking ship. He wouldn’t have, mind you, if any acorns were in sight.

I feel I also have to mention that I might have, at some point(s) during the movie, fallen asleep for a very brief moment. Not sure anymore.

The thing I remember most is that I kept thinking, “Wouldn’t it be cool if they made prescription 3D glasses for every-day use that made you think, ‘WOW! It’s all in 3D!’?”

So until the next Ice Age comes, don’t sleep too much. Because you’ll probably want to get some shut-eye in Ice Age 4 when it arrives.
